What tools will I require to fit my own CCTV system?

  2. Flat head screwdriver
  3. Allen keys (Usually supplied with your security camera)
  4. Hand drill
  5. Cable stripper (If you are not using Plug & Play cable)
  6. Crimping tool (If you are using BNC crimp on plugs

How will I know where to fit the cameras?

We cannot tell you exactly where to position your security cameras without knowing the layout of your property.

We can advise you on the best place to site your cameras once we know a little about your property otherwise as a basic guide you will need to asses the high risk areas of your property.

Make sure you cover the areas that may be targeted by criminals.

If you are working with a monitored budget, consider installing dummy cameras which will help deter vandals and thieves who may believe the camera to be real.

There are so many lens sizes, How will I know what is right for my application?

When our customers ask us this question we will usually always recommend a vari-focal lens whether it be a zoom vari-focal or manual.

This is because you will only ever know what size lens you will need after the camera has been installed. With a vari-focal lens you can adjust the angle of view and range of the security camera during installation to ensure you get the very best view.

Beware when fitting security cameras outside!

When ever you are installing cameras outside we recommend housing your cable connections in one of our weatherproof ABS enclosures.

This ensures that no water can get inside the BNC video connection or DC power connection which is one of the most common causes of failure in a CCTV system.

Another important point to consider when installing a security camera outside is what level of protection it offers against the ingress of water and other small particles. This can be measured using the CCTV IP (Ingress Protection) Rating.

What about data protection, How will I know my system is operating within the law?

If you are monitoring an area which members of the public frequent you will have to conform to the data protection act.

This will include displaying CCTV Signs which explain you are recording surveillance images and keeping detailed records of any evidence backups you have made.

If you are operating a CCTV system on private property such as your home the data protection act becomes less of a concern. It is still worth displaying signs because this will also act as a great deterrent to would be criminals.

Some companies advertise a maintenance contract with their CCTV packages, Will I need one of these?

We do not believe it is necessary to sell you a maintenance contract as your surveillance system will generally take care of itself.
